Boobs
I’ve had breasts since I was 9 and I am now 21. In college, without gaining any weight, I have gone up a cup size. This is not a good thing. My breasts aren’t OMG TRIPLE F HUGE, but for my size they seem disproportianate to me.
As they kept growing, they somehow became public property. Men began to be bolder and make lewd comments (I’ve had a manager ask when the wet tshirt contest was), while women I didn’t know began to ask personal questions about my bust. To those that believe that such comments must somehow be provoked—I don’t wear low cut tops, the majority of my shirts could stand to be a size smaller, I have not gone out braless since I was 14, and just recently am I comfortable enough to go without a shirt in the pool.
It drives me crazy when friends disregard my complaints, telling me to be happy that I have what so many women pay for. It’s not that simple. I’m not sure how to verbalize it, but with zero consent this part of me has become the trait with which people identify me. I was called Big Boobs Mcgee (so original) in middle school. In high school, several people referred to my ‘melons’ in my year book and whenever I chose to wear a shirt that actually fit classmates would comment, “So, you’re letting the girls out today” (Hahaha, So. Funny.) Now, in college, men feel the need to approach me to let me know that I have big breasts; five minutes into the conversation, “Your boobs are really big” (Holy shit! If you didn’t say anything I never would have known! Thank you, keen observer of breasts!)
This was initially going to be a post asking for bra recommendations. The less expensive bra places seem to assume a bigger cup size means bigger band size and I really can’t afford a $50 bra. It would also be nice to find a bra in my size that looks like something a 21 year old would want to wear. Any recommendations?
Anyway, this is something I’ve tried to talk through before, but people have always been so quick to make me feel ridiculous for having this complaint. Okay, back to online bra shopping.
