On my joblessness
About a year ago I quit my job to start an independent study in the psychology department of my school. It wasn’t a good job, mind you, but I was getting paid.
I spent about 10 months being a lab assistant; running tests, asking questions, calibrating intimidatingly expensive equipment for no pay. That was fine, because I love psychology and I was extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work with some actual names in the psychology world.
While the program was coming to an end, I was offered a paid position in the lab and I couldn’t believe it, total baller status. Well, with all of the pay cuts the programs at my school are facing, the lab couldn’t get the funding needed to pay me. So, the program is over and I am still jobless, finding it nearly impossible to find a job that’s not fast food related.
If worse comes to worst, I may find myself in a Hooters uniform, Jell-O wrestling. Yes, my town has a Hooters with Jell-O wrestling…and one Hooters. Grad school cannot come soon enough.
