That Apatow’s straight-white-male slackers are lovable and acceptable means people accept that straight white men are individuals whose personalities vary greatly; one male slacker doesn’t doom all men to reputations as slackers. The less privileged the group is, the less slackerdom is permitted. It’s much easier for a depiction of a minority slacker to be seen as a detriment to their group by members and non-members alike (“Stop making us look bad” and “This is why you’re in this position.”)
